Preliminary project of “Terracina” station, metro line 7, in the city of Naples.
The project consists in a main square in front of the station entrance, a link tunnel and a big room realized with open-air excavation.
The design project is based on the contrast between the dark basement, and the upper levels, characterized by lighter colours.
The project, with organic and sinuous lines, leads the travellers through the space.
The public square near via Terracina, in front of the entrance, welcomes the travellers and lead them through the station, requalifying the surrounding area.
The entrance looks like a bright portal, coated with reflecting panels with a translucent portion corresponding to the station entrance, creating a district landmark.
The roof wedges into the ground, fitting perfectly in the area exploiting its topography.
The integration between architecture and engineering is obtained through the use of distribution balconies as contrast ring beams, trussed by linking walkways.
This solution combines functional and constructive themes in a single language.
The shape of this space has let to create, at the mezzanine level, some exhibition areas along traveller’s path, qualified as cultural spaces with informative panels, holographic screens and illuminated display cases for archaeological heritage.
In these showcases the archaeological heritage founded in via Terracina area could be exposed, actually not located.
In this way the metropolitan station becomes also a museum, where the travellers can see the archaeological remains along their way and in some areas specifically set up.
